"Working with Edge Architecture has been a pleasure. Being a small firm, I always feel like Edge takes care of our needs and looks out for us as if they felt it personally, which, now that I am saying it, is true."

Campbell Street R-Center

For the Campbell Street R-Center, it was important to not only understand the issues around maintenance of the aging facility, but it was important to understand the needs of the neighborhood, DRYS and the operating staff. Edge attended neighborhood open houses to present ideas and receive feedback and facilitated multiple user meetings that included staff, youth, and City leadership.

Scope of work included the replacement of gymnasium flooring, windows, kitchen remodel and various building systems upgrades and enhancements.

Formerly dark and dated, the gymnasium was outfitted with new windows allow in more natural light while the same accent colors as the kitchen were used throughout, giving it an overall brighter and fresher look. The logo used on the floor of the gym was based on drawings created by local Rochester children.

The kitchen was redone using bright pops of orange and blue as accent colors, while stainless steel cabinets were chosen for their durability, cleanability, and add to the sleek and modern finished look. The new kitchen will not only be used for snack/mealtimes, but also nutritional cooking classes to encourage and educate parents and children about the benefits of healthy eating.

Teen Central - Rochester Central Library

Teen Central - Rochester Central Library

The Central Library in the City of Rochester is made up two buildings, the original 1936 Rundel Library and the Bausch and Lomb Library. Scope for this project included the design and relocation of Art, Music, Recreation and Teen Central spaces.

To bring more teens to the library we addressed their 21st century requirements. In addition to supporting their literature needs, Teens now have space for video. Throughout the entire area, we incorporated fun and innovative color-changing LED lighting.

The foyer was designed to serve as the central artery for the building and includes a high definition glass wall for presentation and training. The space is a collector of people while at the same time providing niche locations for informal meetings or informal gathering. The design promotes a sense of movement as well as incorporates warmth using non-traditional durable materials.

A facelift was required for this 1958 gymnasium. The original floor was refinished and striped to accommodate the physical fitness and athletic programs; a fresh coat of paint, new doors and wall pads complete the makeover.

High School Cafeteria & Lounge | East Rochester Union Free School District

The cafeteria's finishes were washed out and outlived, with dull grey walls, typical VCT flooring and dirty window blinds. We transformed the space into a mini-student union, with soft seating spaces that can be used for study hall, lounging and socializing. High-top tables were introduced for additional seating and acoustic clouds were installed to help soften the noisy lunch hour. The space is now infused with with school spirit, with a suspended school mascot, large wall graphics and school colors galore. Students use the space for working on projects together in study halls and can be used for after school event space.

We converted an old storage space into a multipurpose room for staff and student meetings. The district was lacking much needed space that was adaptable for any meeting style. The solution: re-use an existing space with flexible furniture that supports any meeting style, with movable tables and presenter station. A sink and counter were added to support the multi-use nature of the space, and exterior windows allow daylight and views.

We transformed a rarely used Large Group Instruction space into a collaborative learning environment dedicated to Music and Performing Arts. Before, bulky, bolted-down seating was in the way and a low ceiling inhibited larger music instruments from joining lessons. Stackable chairs now allow for a dynamic classroom that can be changed according to the day's lesson, and can be placed out of the way for chorus rehearsals. The existing stage was lowered to floor-level for the instructor, while finishes were updated and accessibility ramps were added.

Existing classrooms were renovated to accommodate science laboratories and prep rooms. A functional and accessible laboratory was designed using casework, chemical resistant and durable materials and a warm, neutral color pallet.
